A trip to Fish Creek Park in south Calgary became a specific details photography day, with chilly and overcast weather, and no wildlife in sight. There should be no excuse to not find anything to create an image of, from macro details to patterns that naturally occur all around us.

With a large number of my revisions complete, and their implementation taking place with the new website, fine art print line, the newly revised "Today in Alberta" newsletter, my new "Today in Alberta Anniversary Edition Collector Book", and this blog.
I am hoping to make this blog come back to life, starting with this post, and with additional information coming on a regular basis from now on.
Hibernation is over, bring on Spring! :)

As economic conditions change, so must one's business in order to survive and maintain specific standards and levels of service.
Brad Allen Photography has been in busy mode for the past 5 months, not only with working projects and creating new fine art pieces, but also taking on in-depth research in order to make my fine art products more readily available, easier to access, and of a much higher standard of quality; with this, a higher level of customer service as well.
The allenfoto.com website has been completely revamped from the ground up; by changing my hosting company/package to a much more cost effective, and easier method of keeping content current and maintaining it all. The new website has customer service that can't be beat, with built in applications to streamline my work-flow to better offer my services, fine art products, and commercial licensing.
Based on all of these new applications and ideas that are meant to increase productivity, value, and customer service to all of you (my clients/collectors/friends), please bear with me while they all get implemented over the next few weeks. Changes in website, newsletter, products and services shall be a very noticeable thing, that I am both pleased and excited about.

I hope that all of you have had a wonderful, relaxing, and heartfelt Christmas this holiday season; and wish you all the very best in happiness and success in the new year :)

A walk with wolves...

A grey wolf appears from the depths of the forest and looks intently...
This is a first 'sneak peek' at a series of images I created from a recent adventure to the wilds of Golden B.C., where I 'walked with wolves'; specifically, a wild grey wolf named Maya.

Testing another big Sigma...

Recently just got word from my Camera Store contact that I will be getting the Sigma 300-800mm lens for testing; just awaiting the further details to find out the when, and for how long :)
I am excited to test this lens, as I've already got planned shoots with it (some are weather dependent).
I did have the option to get the 'Bigma' back, but realized that for the type of shooting I do, it's an impractical lens to be hauling around.

Monster Sigma (Bigma) Lens - Conclusion

I returned the monster lens, as it seems that the unit got damaged in shipment at some point; it did not want to zoom past 330mm, or 660mm with the 2x converter attached (should zoom to 1000mm).
I did however, feel the necessity to at least get a pic of me with it for documenting purposes :) ...thanks to Trevor for lending me his camera to shoot it :)
When the lens is checked and repaired, I am hoping to negotiate it back for actual testing in the wilds sometime in May 2010; fingers and toes crossed :)

Monster Lens Acquisition...

I picked up a Sigma 200-500mm F2.8 / 400-1000mm F5.6 Canon mount lens today for testing. With all of the excitement, I rushed home with the unexpectedly HUGE pelican case that took up the entire back seat of my quad-cab truck; I wheeled the case into the house and pulled out the Green Machine (Bigma).
Upon immediate connection to my 1Dmk4, I was dismayed to find out that I could not access the upper zoom range of the lens; it just did not want to zoom any higher than 330mm, and only 660mm with the 2x converter.
I have been in contact with the Canadian agent for Sigma, and awaiting their response; hopefully there is a fix so that I can use the lens and test it to it's full potential.
Failing a fix, I'll have to return the lens and hopefully get it back at a later date.

Brad Allen Photography upgrades to the new 1D Mk4 DSLR camera body, allowing higher resolution, faster and more accurate focussing on fast moving subjects, extreme low-light capture ability, and the addition of FULL 1080p HD motion capture.
Since acquisition of the new camera body this week, I have undertaken a major testing phase of the camera for it's low-light capabilities and motion capture ability; more to come on this, as I am partaking in a major assignment starting Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, which will put this unit in conditions of extremes :)

Alberta Arts Days Gallery Showing

On Saturday, Sept. 19, I set up a gallery display of prints at the Museum of the Highwood (CPR train station) in High River as part of the Alberta Arts Days celebrations within the community.
I was very busy talking and showing my work for the entire duration of the showing, as a number of visitors came to the event just to see me and my work.

Thank you so much to the Museum of the Highwood and the High River Culture Centre for allowing me to be a part of, and share my passion with the community at your location and event.

Wow, it's been an amazingly busy and active summer with trips to Vancouver, planning photography showings, working on film/tv projects in preproduction, and keeping up with family :)

Projects on the go:

Sept. 19/09 - 10am-4pm at the Museum of the Highwood (CPR Station) in High River, Alberta. I will be hosting another photography gallery showing in celebration of Alberta Arts Days. All prints on display at the Museum are Original Photographic Art Pieces.

Urban Reality: A feature film project that is about to go into full production; I have the Director of Photography (DOP), and Stills Photographer jobs.

First World: A television project by Herd of One Productions, where I've been working as the Imaging Specialist.

Being The Moment: A Herd of One Productions project in support of Canada's premier Illusionist and Hypnotist figures, Kiitokii.

Knights Errand: In conjunction with Dead Reckoning Entertainment, we have been working to produce authentic costumes for a medieval themed wedding coming this November in Las Vegas.

STARS Air Ambulance: STARS has contacted me to bid/quote on their annual photography contract. Images to be used in all aspects of media publications.

The Hunter: Photography project reflecting historically accurate hunting (buffalo) on the plains of early 1800's North America.

Website: It has been quite some time since my last website update, as current projects are keeping me very busy; I will soon have new images and information again on a regular basis.

The Natural History section of the gallery has been modified and added to, with beautiful images from Alberta and British Columbia. I have been so busy since the May show, and I apologize for not getting an update sooner.
The "Studio Tour" gallery showing on May 30 & 31, was a great success and I look forward to being involved with this event again next year. Congratulations to Alan Golby of High River for winning my door prize, a 12x18 framed print of the STARS air ambulance (featured on the HOME PAGE of my website) valued at $500. I would very much like to thank Don & Brenda Carlson of Carlson's on MacLeod for sponsoring their fantastic venue to showcase my work; and also to the High River Culture Centre for allowing me to take part in this great community event.

MAJOR EVENT NEWS:
On the weekend of May 30 & 31, Brad Allen Photography will be in High River as a featured artist in the community wide event "Studio Tour". There will be a large number of local artists opening their studio doors to show various mediums of art, from painting to sculpting and metal works. I will be attending both days with my display at my sponsors location, "Carlson's on MacLeod" - 129 3rd Av SW in High River, Alberta. I would very much like to invite you, and anyone else you would like to bring, to take part in touring the community of High River and taking a look at my display of Original Fine Art Pieces. Carlson's is also a licensed cafe & Cappuccino Bar, where you can have a break while you look at and purchase my works of Art :) ...you may even win a valuable door prize!

A new category of images has been uploaded to the newly created Production Stills section, containing stills taken during the production "Sketch". This Dreamers Film production is a documentary style feature film which covers a number of longboarding routes and pathway systems that are both challenging and dangerous, and these active pros will show you how it's done. Filmed on-location in HD, and coming to DVD in 2009.
The "Studio Tour" category has also been set-up, giving you a glimpse of some of the images that will be on display May 30 & 31 in High River as part of the annual community wide event. Nothing beats seeing these works of art up-close-and-personal; get the real "WOW" factor, and take an Art Piece home with you :) Hope to see you there!

A new category of images has been uploaded to the newly created Production Stills section, containing stills taken during the production "ReAnimator". This Dreamers Film production stars Jason Cermak, Tamara Werden, Nikki Barran, and Peter Ellingson in a thriller/suspense story that is twisted and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Other productions have had their category folders already created, but you will just have to wait a bit longer to see them... sorry :)

Another new category of images has been uploaded to the Portrait section, containing images of portraits showing casuals to headshots, executives to environmental, engagements and themed photoshoots that are set to specific eras with fully authentic costumes.

A new category of images has been uploaded to the Natural History section, containing images of the beautiful natural areas in Kananaskis Country, Alberta, Canada. Another new category has also been added, containing images of automobiles from classic muscle to modern horse power and economy.

Okay, it didn't work out exactly as I was hoping it would.
Amazing how it took an entire year to get back to this with everything being so busy, and the need to entirely redesign and find new hosting for my website. Busy as ever :)
I am happy to say that I will soon have the website going live this month (April 2009), after finally being able to find the right people to work with on its design and implementation. More news to come on this...

I now have another venue in Calgary where you can see a sample of my work. The Montgomery Chiropractic Plus office located at 4704 Bowness Rd NW now contains a number of my large scale prints; step inside and be completely captivated.

Please note that the email address provided in my first post for the "Today in Alberta" Ezine is no longer valid, and will be newly re-instated with the launch of the allenfoto.com website.

Hopefully, I will now be better able to keep this blog up-to-date with news items as they occur.

With this being my first blog entry, I'd like to take this grand opportunity to bring everyone up-to-date with what's been going on at Brad Allen Photography...

This is something that is entirely new to me, and although I've generally kept most of my updates and news for my Ezine (see below), I promise to do my best to keep this updated with news as well. Now you all will just have access to both!! :)
